Yoga and somatic movement

About Denise Gaskell

Hi, I’m Denise. I teach therapeutic yoga and somatics in St Albans, Hertfordshire. I founded movingintostillness.co.uk to offer a calmer, more embodied approach to wellbeing.

I work with people who want to feel more at ease in their bodies and calmer in their minds — whether they’re navigating stress, pain, feeling overwhelm, or just the general wear and tear of modern life. My approach is gentle, intuitive, and rooted in the belief that real change happens when we start listening to ourselves more closely — and more kindly.

I offer private tuition, group classes, workshops and events, and workplace wellbeing programmes, all designed to support people in reconnecting with themselves in a way that feels doable, grounded, and deeply personal.

“One of my greatest joys is to witness the transformational effect therapeutic yoga and somatics has on my students.”

My Approach to Teaching

I blend yoga and somatics to create a therapeutic practice designed to help those in need of support. I use my acquired skills and extensive experience to develop specially curated, people centred practices that allow exploration, curiosity and room for growth. Inspiration for my classes comes from the many teachers I have and continue to study with.

I came to yoga and somatics through my own journey with physical pain, stress, illness, disconnection and a sense that I’d somehow drifted away from my own body. Over the years, I’ve learned different skills that helped me regain my sense of self and restore my physical, mental and emotional capabilities. It is this continuous journey that compels me to share my knowledge with you through:

My Teaching Style

My group classes, private sessions, workshops and day retreats are accessible to people of all ages and abilities. I embrace the traditional teachings of yoga and combine them with modern movement practices to create a system which is informed by tradition and inspired by modern day living. With the breath as the foundation of the practice, I encourage mindful presence, the ability to notice what’s already here, how it feels, and how small shifts can create big changes over time. I aim to teach Therapeutic Yoga and Somatics in a way that adapts to the needs of the my students, day-to-day, moment-to-moment.

Since yoga is a multi-disciplined practice, I am eager to share its many facets with my students in group classes or in private sessions to allow them to discover what resonates with and inspires them. Classes are adaptable and can include combinations of movement, breathwork, guided rest and moments of stillness.

I work with people from all walks of life including those who are:

  • Struggling with life challenges such as chronic pain, stress, anxiety, fatigue, insomnia, breathing issues, etc
  • Avoiding yoga due to previous experience
  • Looking for a slower style of yoga that embodies its classical roots but still presents physical and mental challenge
  • Navigating women’s health issues.

What’s most important to me is that I meet you where you are, with care, presence and a willingness to explore what’s possible through therapeutic yoga and somatics.

How I can Support You

Yoga is a multifaceted practice, offering many paths toward the shared goal of balance and inner peace. My intention is to share this wisdom alongside somatics, creating an inclusive approach that offers something meaningful for everyone.

Lauren's experience

Denise’s yoga classes are enjoyable and expertly taught. She is sensitive and in tune to the group, giving individual attention, when required. I’ve learned yoga techniques from Denise, that will help me and stay with me for the rest of my life. You’re a gift Denise!

Steve's experience

The yoga is brilliant for me, as both a stress reliever and a really great stretch out from being at a desk all day. Especially I’m not a naturally flexible human being! Its one of the highlights of my week and wish it was more than once a week! Denise is brilliant, bringing aspects of yoga and modern muscle and body movement techniques.
