THE BENEFITS OF RESTORATIVE YOGA

The key to a restorative yoga practice is letting go. The aim is to relax and soften into the postures so that your body can learn to release its tensions and open up naturally. A restorative yoga practice can:

  • Deeply relax the body
  • Calm the mind
  • Soothe the nervous system, relieving stress and anxiety
  • Release muscular tension and improve mobility
  • Increase self awareness and connection to your body
  • Encourage introspection and clarity
  • Help you recover from illness

USEFUL YOGA PROPS

To get the most out of a restorative style of yoga we use props to support the body when needed. This helps you to let go fully and relax more deeply, even if you are open and flexible in your body. Below is a list of props which would be helpful in a relax and revive yoga session:

  • A couple of blankets
  • A bolster, cushions or pillows to prop various parts of your body
  • A belt, strap or scarf
  • A yoga block or a couple of hardback books.

Don’t worry if you don’t have exactly what is on the list, you can improvise with whatever you do have.
